Deer Park is a hamlet located in Suffolk County, New York on Long Island. It has a population of 28,235 as of the 2020 census and is part of the Town of Babylon. The area was first settled in 1610 by John Henry Smith and his family, who were English settlers. The village was then known as “Smith’s Point” until it became part of the town of Babylon in 1872. 

Deer Park is primarily a residential community with an active commercial district that includes local shops, restaurants, hotels and services businesses. Deer Park also offers its residents plenty to do outdoors due to its proximity to several parks including Belmont Lake State Park and Heckscher State Park. Both parks feature hiking trails, fishing spots, boating areas and playgrounds. The town also has its own library and a host of recreational activities such as bowling alleys and movie theaters. 

Deer Park is served by the Deer Park Union Free School District which includes five elementary schools, one middle school, and one high school. There are also several private schools in the area including St. Anthony’s High School, St. John the Baptist Diocesan High School, and Suffolk Christian Academy. Additionally, there is an active community center located within the hamlet that provides various educational and recreational programs for all ages.
